Having my first crack at hot #compost! (18 day method-discoverpermaculture.com) Inputs:
Lilly Pilly hedge trimmings run through wood chipper (about 0.4m3),
grass clippings with a dose of dry Lilly Pilly tree leaves (~0.2m3),
compost from cold compost bin (~0.1m3),
worm castings as activator.
A little under the min 1m3 recommended but seems to be working-temps:
Day 4: 58.5 degrees Celsius (137F)
Day 6: 52 C (126F)
Day 8: 53 C (127F)
Love to hear any tips!
It was sunny yesterday and cloudy the day before in that part of Greater Houston I live in, but they had two things I did not like: they were dry days. There should have been snow, ice, frost, or anything involving frozen water. Bwagh, here's hoping that February will bring something rare (and safe) in our subtropical climate.
