Just finished #subnautica & it's a brilliant terrifying game, everything out there wants you dead, whether it's the darkness, the water or giant creatures, there's always something round the corner

I liked the presentation too, how it's not quest markers & a journal, you're fed several trails of breadcrumbs and it's up to the player to decide which to investigate - or ignore them & make a life under the waves.

Also unusual compared with other games, the boss-level enemies are optional. They're annoyed because they're predatory & territorial wildlife, but you don't have to fight them. I think that's how they're intended - a threat you have to learn how to deal with, not an obstacle that must be destroyed.

16/17 achievements too, without trying for them. I should have got the Degasi Jellyshroom cave one, but game didn't register it.

Would recommend, if you're looking for a survival game where the main antagonist is your own fear of the deep, dark ocean.

#subnautica finally loaded up my cyclops for the Lost River & set up a little outpost down there by the tree - water filters, power cell charger & even a fish tank in case I get snackish

Got the Cyclops mk2 2 depth upgrade fitted. but had to trundle it all the way back to my main base in the red grass just to fit a mk1 prawn upgrade 'cos I'd not planned for a moonpool at the little outpost. argh

Dear #lazyweb, what's a good iPad (or if I must, macOS/Windows/web) app for mapping out unknown territory? Grid, icons/labels, ability to gauge distance, that sort of thing. Needs to NOT be real-world map based.

Diagram tools like Vizio/OmniGraffle are like 80% there but lack the distance gauging thing.

(Yes this is about #Subnautica, lmao. No I do not want to just use other peoples' maps!)
