I love this litte building at 190 Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. It was built in an English Renaissance style in 1897 and was designed by Frank Burnet of the firm Burnet and Boston.

Love the bird-like creatures emerging from the foliage on this Corinthian capital on the Liverpool and London and Global Building on St Vincent Street in Glasgow. Designed by James Thomson, with sculptures by James Young, it was built in 1899.

The streetscape at the junction of St Vincent Street and Renfield Street in Glasgow, with James Miller's 1920s Modern Classical bank building in the foreground. These buildings were constructed in a variety different styles, mostly over approximately an 80 year period (from the mid-1800s to the 1930s) and yet they still come together to form a single united streetscape that is uniquely Glaswegian.

A beautifully cast phoenix rising out of flames on the door of the Phoenix Assurance Building on Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. Dating from 1912, it was created by the Bromsgrove Guild of Applied Arts.

I've yet to come to a conclusion as to whether or not I actually like them, but they're certainly better than many more recent developments, and much of the housing built in the 1960s and 1970s.

Modern tenement style buuldings on Saint Vincent Street in the Anderston area of Glasgow. Built in the 1980s or early 1990s (I'm guessing), they feature details, such as oriel windows and arched dormers, which can be found on the city's traditional tenements and townhouses without crossing the line into pastiche territory.

The wondeful corner tower of the Norwich Union Chambers on Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. Designed by Robert Hutchison in a Free Renaissance style, it was built in 1897, around what was probably the peak popularity of corner towers on Glasgow buildings

The former Northern Assurance Building on Saint Vincent Street in central Glasgow. Built in 1908, it was designed by John A. Campbell, and to me it seems like its half way between the Art Nouveau and the Art Deco styles.

The Phoenix Assurance Company monogram on thr door of their former office at 78 Saint Vincent Street in Glasgow. While this building was constructed in 1908, the Phoenix Assurance Company was created in London in the 1780s to specialise in providing insurance to the new businesses of the industrial revolution, such as cotton mills, which had substantial fire risks associated with them.
