I've had an ongoing #bicycle project with my Raleigh Bista #frankenbike over the last few months.

It's a real 'Triggers Broom' bike with only the frame remaining (which was found in a hedge a few decades ago).

The latest job has been replacing the #SturmeyArcher 3 speed coaster hub with 3 speed with a drum brake, and at the same time reducing the gearing to something sensible.

Some fool had ordered a new sprocket without realising that the rest of the drive train was 3/32" rather than 1/8"

Ah well - new sprocket and (just to be on the safe side) a new chain on order.

This weekend I serviced my Sturmey Archer 3 Speed hub. I'd bought some new pawl springs, but it turns out everything was fine.

Relubed with super thin Sturmey Archer grease.

It's now smooth af, but almost totally silent, so maybe I used too much grease.

This is the second time I've serviced the hub.

Finally converted my fixie to a singlespeed with a coaster brake!

These hubs are so unpopular, that I had to order one from the Netherlands 😄

I used to ride such bikes as a teenager, and missed the simplicity of it. So far so good, am adjusting to the bike, but the rides got noticeably less intense.

After three+ months of daily use and about 2000km, I finally remembered to take some pictures of my most recent build, a #Surly PackRat frame I built up as a #commuter with a #SturmeyArcher #3speed hub in back, generator hub up front, porteur rack (with a Swift Polaris bag) and some weirdo CrMo #Nitto handlebars.
