My bi-annual PSA for the People Who Make Decisions. Tractors come with lights now. Even the Amish put lights on their horses. Enough with the clock nonsense. Pick one and stick to it.

It's 2 AM (or 0200 if you prefer), I can't sleep, my head feels like it's being stabbed from behind by a vindictive child with an ice pick, and my stomach's off from dinner. So what do I do? I go to the studio and start cleaning up 4-track masters of the terrible goth band I was in circa 1992-1993. Yeah, that tracks.

"Why does my head hurt every time I move it?" I asked myself. "Is it muscle tension? Stress? Did I have too much caffeine?" πŸ€”

"Could I be dehydrated? But I've been sipping this water... Okay, fine, I'll try another bottle."

So I got a nice, cool, half-liter bottle out of the fridge. Started drinking it...

...and less than 60 seconds later, all 500 ml were inside me. Um.

Okay, I guess I was dehydrated!

(So now the headache will go away? Right?)

Figured I'd do a quick update of my garage "Artoo unit" before queuing up some music for the Saturday wrenching session...

I just wanted some tunes - is that so wrong? Ha.

# go to console
# apt update && apt full-upgrade
# reboot to tune-age.

Joys of not running Stable - it's easy to shoot yourself in the face.

Not recommended unless you have lots of patience and can deal with issues when they come up or, more importantly, have the time to deal with them when they come up!

I locked myself IN my car this morning.

My jacket got caught in the door and was putting enough pressure on the lock that it wouldn't open.

Also, the jacket was cinched up enough that I couldn't take it off and climb out another door. I was stuck!

It took me twenty minutes to figure out that I could pull the door towards me to relieve the pressure on the lock enough to allow me to open the door.

So... anyway. How's your Monday?

Why are so many tourists stupid?

OPINION There’s an undeniably smug pleasure many of us take in observing others’ failings or stupid behavior, and indeed, it’s hard not to feel superior

Higher cognitive ability linked to higher chance of having voted against Brexit

A new analysis suggests that a person with higher cognitive ability may have been more likely to vote "Remain" in the 2016 Brexit referendum, and that a spouse's cognitive skills may also be linked to Brexit voting decisions. Chris Dawson and Paul Baker of the University of Bath, U.K., present these findings in the open-access journal PLOS ONE on November 22, 2023.
