🀯After the earlier cold snap and brief heatwave, perhaps because of the recent rain and more typical seasonal temperatures, there has been a burst of slime mould activity at Strumpshaw Fen.

I have a backlog of posts to write up – so it could be a while before I get to this burst of activity ☹️

Based on previous observations and a possible identifying feature (a distinctive columella plate) – I think this is Stemonitis flavogenita.

We saw nesting swans at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen in late April and today we spotted a huddle of cygnets and their parents – can't say if they are the same ones...

Fuligo septica has made it's return to the woodland at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen.

This small aethalium was being checked out by a woodlouse.

I’m currently working through a backlog of winter finds β€” starting with this one.

From late December to February, I had the wonderful opportunity to track a Badhamia utricularis slime mould from active plasmodium, to sporulation, sporangia and dehiscence 🀯

Spotted this leaning monolith along the river path at Strumpshaw Fen today – it looks like a Wild Cherry. Despite it's broken state and the old long gash, it's still clinging to life with fresh epicormic shoots – but it had also engulfed some blue nylon rope. This occasionally catches us out – from a distance we think that we've spotted an exciting fungus or slime mould!

It was too dry at Strumpshaw Fen for slime moulds today, but I rather imagined this reedmace seed head as a super large slime mould capillitial spore mass!
