The third studio album by Sade takes a slight departure from the jazzier tones of their earlier works, instead opting for a more stripped-back sound with a soulful R'n'B vibe. Nevertheless, it still retains that unmistakable Sade flair, delivering a collection of timeless singles such as "Paradise", "Nothing Can Come Between Us", and "Love Is Stronger Than Pride". I sense it straddles the line between their jazzy roots and the soul/R'n'B direction they would later embrace, although at times it also exudes a darker atmosphere than their preceding albums at the time. Nonetheless, akin to much of Sade's catalogue, I have a soft spot for 'Stronger Than Pride', and depending on my mood, it could very well claim the title of my favourite Sade studio album, despite my equal appreciation for most of their albums based on their respective qualities and merits. Lastly, for me, the most underrated gem on this album is probably "I Never Thought I'd See The Day" — instrumentally sparse and simplistic, yet remarkably effective in evoking the emotion it aims to convey thanks to Sade Adu.
