🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🚇⌚ #Strathclyde Partnership for #Transport (SPT) will consider extending #Subway operating hours following its modernisation, including new platform screen doors and unattended train operation. The proposal faces a committee meeting this week.
Under the plan, Monday–Thursday timings remain 06:30–23:30. Friday and Saturday services would run until 00:30, roughly an hour later than at present. Sunday services would see the biggest change, running 06:30–23:30—starting 3.5 hours earlier and finishing 5.5 hours later than the current timetable.
SPT states this responds to long-standing demand for better Sunday connectivity. The plan accounts for maintenance and staffing, with union discussions underway regarding revised shifts for station, driving, and engineering teams. A two-year review is proposed to monitor passenger demand and costs, ensuring the extended service remains safe and financially sustainable.https://www.spt.co.uk/about-us/news/proposed-new-subway-opening-hours/

In Glasgow city centre on Friday 20 March? Fancy listening to some fine jazz performances?! Then you might like to attend a performance of the Strathclyde University Big Band. Free entry!

The Big Band comprises staff, students, alumni, and ex-staff of the University of Strathclyde (of which I am one!). The set list looks like it will feature standards by #Basie, #Cannonball #Adderley, and more.

The #Strathclyde Partnership for #Transport (SPT) has approved the Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy (SRBS) and action plan, including plans to introduce bus franchising across the region. This follows strong public backing during a consultation earlier in the year, with 83% in favour. The strategy focuses on better infrastructure, affordable fares, reliability, safety, and sustainability. Respondents highlighted the need for more accessible and integrated services. SPT leaders stressed the importance of better bus links for disadvantaged communities in west #Scotland and tackling the climate emergency. A costed programme and timeline for a Franchise Framework Assessment, required by the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019, will be developed and presented in December 2025.

The #Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy aims to improve the bus network in the west of #Scotland, where bus use has been declining. Bus services connect people to essential destinations and play a role in addressing issues like climate change, inequality, and social isolation. SPT is consulting on a draft strategy to enhance bus services, focusing on better #accessibility, frequency, and coverage.

A consultation on the draft strategy is open, with reports and background assessments available for review. The process includes feedback from an Options Appraisal, which will help identify the best operational model for the region’s bus services. The consultation period will end on 29th May 2025.

Switching gears, I'm a big fan of Single Grain Scotch. I think it is criminally overlooked, in favor of Single Malt. Hunter Hamilton bottles some great single grain expressions under their The Clan Denny label. Recent auction deliveries brought me three more.

A nine-year from Strathclyde, a 42-year from Lochside, and a 45-year from Cambus. Lochside is a closed distillery. It was closed in 1992 and demolished in 2004. Cambus was also mothballed in 1993 by Diageo.
