MARCH 20: #DonnieDumbass announces we are "winding down our great military efforts in the Middle East."

MARCH 21: He threatens to "hit & obliterate #Iran's power plants" if they don't [re]open the #StraightOfHormuz.

"The #StraightOfHormuz was open before he invaded. Now they're trying to fix a problem THEY created."

And now they want to send in ground troops that will result in the deaths of an untold number of U.S. troops. 🤬

Is #DonTheCon telling everyone he's negotiating with #Iran so he can claim a few days from now "Iran backed out of the deal" to justify sending in ground troops to seize the #StraightOfHormuz? 🤨

Das macht alles so furchtbar viel Sinn.

#Trump is now bragging about having met is goals in the #Iran war "weeks ahead of schedule"... three weeks into the war that was supposed to go on for " four to five weeks".

As usual, every word that's coming from #Trump's mouth is a lie.

What those goals are is probably a mystery to everyone in the #WhiteHouse, too.

Apart from that now #Trump threatens to attack civilian infrastructure (power stations to be precise) to force the iranian government to re-open the #straightofhormuz .

Apart from being a blunt violation of #internationallaw, I don't get the strategy behind it. (My best guess is that Trump is just copying #Putin in his war with #Ukraine - giving #Putin a good opportunity to deflect criticism.) People in #Iran are much less dependent on #energy than people in #Ukraine, since the winters aren't as cold, especially now that #winter is over and #spring is coming. I get that #Putin just wants to demoralise the Ukrainian population, to break their will to fight back and ultimately weaken their resistance. But in #Iran, much of the population is already *against* their government. They don't have the will to fight *for* their government and defend their country. (Of course, there are those that do - but still the situation is very different from Ukraine.)

Trump fumes at NATO for refusing to help secure Strait of Hormuz

President Donald Trump says NATO and other allies have rejected his calls to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. He complained on Tuesday that he has been unable to rally support behind the war of choice that he insists he’s conducting for the good of the world even if it doesn’t appreciate his effort. Trump’s indignant response to allies’ rejection to get involved in the war further underscored that the Iran war, now in its third week and causing reverberations across the global economy, is one that the international community is looking for the U.S. leader to sort out himself. And it's a dynamic the president insists he’s OK with.

Got half an hour? You could spend it on Nate Hagen's "Wide boundary news" in which he unpicks the consequences of a closed #Straightofhormuz

As always, Nate approaches the topic with a systemic or holistic lens.

Fertiliser makes an obvious appearance. So does sulfur, but I'm not so sure about this, see #2.
Less obvious: the storage capacity for oil is brimming. When storage capacity is full, Iraq's oil producers for example need to either get rid of their surplus by dumping it into the environment – or shut down production. The latter is problematic for the old water-pressure based tech used in Iraq in particular because it means to potentially lose the whole oil deposit.

One surprising angle: religion. All 3 war parties have reason to, and indeed do, frame the war as a prerequisite to their respective Messiah's return.
In the US, complains were filed about military bosses telling their troupes that Trumler and the war are bringing about Armageddon or something.

Wide Boundary News: The Iranian War, Rising Gas Prices, and the Single Point Failure - The Great Simplification

In this installment, Nate addresses the U.S. and Israeli military offensive against Iran and traces the reverberating effects that extend far beyond the conflict itself, starting with what the closure of the Strait of Hormuz means for a civilization that routes a massive share of its physical economy through a single maritime corridor.
