Сеть может «лечь» не из‑за провайдера, не из‑за перегруженного сервера и не из‑за мистики в коммутаторе. Иногда достаточно одной L2-петли: кадры начинают ходить по кругу, broadcast‑трафик превращается в шторм, MAC‑адреса флапают, а пользователи внезапно теряют доступ к DHCP, шлюзам и внутренним сервисам. Разбираемся, как быстро распознать такую аварию, найти проблемный порт и не допустить повторения.

Another big day of cycling in preparation for the STP. This one was 71.5 miles from Sammamish, with a healthy part of Lake Washington and a trip around Mercer Island mixed in. Great day for a ride. First time across the I-90 bridge.

Loving Ride With GPS for mapping things out and turn-by-turn directions while on bike. Fantastic service.

Well, this is a personal record: in preparation for the Seattle to Portland Ride in July, I tallied my indoor and outdoor cycling distance for the month of May and came to 419 miles total. Not bad.

June, of course, is going to see that increase.

Radia Joy Perlman came up with a brilliant solution in just a few days to make computer networks both larger and more reliable.

She created #STP, which allows networks to have backup paths for safety, but turns off any extra paths that could cause a loop. This leaves just one clear, active path for data to travel between any two points on the network.

Perlman even wrote a short #poem, called "Algorhyme," to explain how STP works: 🤩

I think that I shall never see
A graph more lovely than a tree.

A tree whose crucial property
Is loop-free connectivity.

A tree which must be sure to span
So packets can reach every LAN.

First the root must be selected.
By ID it is elected.

Least cost paths from root are traced.
In the tree these paths are placed.

A mesh is made by folks like me
