Evelyn in MontrealThis is St. Nicholas (although I think he looks more like an elf) by wood engraver John Henry Walker.
Walker was Irish and immigrated to Montreal in the 1820s. His illustrations appeared in many of Quebec's periodicals in the 19th century but he struggled to have his prints or wood engravings taken seriously as "art".
