I realize that the Steam Controller was made with the intention of taking full advantage of the Steam software ecosystem, but if I can't plug it into a computer and have it be recognized as a controller input device because it instead is treated as a keyboard and mouse by the OS, meaning I have to add every single emulator or non-Steam game to Steam or try to figure out how to set up and use SISR (which is really cool in concept but is functionally unusable right now), and then set up Steam Input settings for all of them, what actual use is it to anyone who isn't already fully committed to using Steam ecosystem exclusively? How is that worth $150CAD? And no, launching Lutris through Steam is not an acceptable solution, it is fucking absurdity that has only given me constant stutters and worse performance in games.
I don't see why I should get a Steam Controller instead of a Vader 5 Pro or similar that I can plug in and expect to just work with minimal hassle or reconfiguring for games regardless of how they're installed or launched. I did make a reservation for the Steam Controller just in case I happened to be wrong and can use it like any standard controller, but the more I learn about the Steam controller, the less convinced I am that it's worth buying as opposed to literally anything else. It's cool hardware engineering that I can't appreciate because I happen to buy many of my games through GOG or other storefronts and install them through Lutris.
