Kyoto Station Building & Kyoto Tower from dusk to night ✨🗼
Kyoto Station Building was designed by architect Hiroshi Hara and completed in 1997. He also designed the Umeda Sky Building in Osaka (1993), both showcasing his visionary fusion of modern architecture and poetic space.
The lanterns, illuminated at night, are displayed inside the building on the 4th floor in an installation titled “Chōjū-giga – Omiyamairi-zu (Frolicking Animals’ Shrine Visit)”, created by lantern artist Masateru Mikami. “Chōjū-giga”, considered the origin of Japanese manga, belongs to Kōzanji Temple in Kyoto. Some of the 108 lanterns are exhibited this time as part of the art event “Geijutsu no Eki”, running until November 3, 2025.
At night, the building takes on a different appearance with its lighting. Hotel Granvia Kyoto occupies the east side of the complex. The yellow stage serves as the roof of the hotel’s Lobby Lounge and as lighting equipment. I’ve never seen any dancers on this yellow stage.
