One of the best quotes from Tom Paris in tonight’s VOY 😂. Something about B’elanna busting his chops.

So I'm not sure what's the actual take of the episode here. Not even sure it takes side between Seven and Kathryn.

I mean I suppose Kathryn has the last words.

It seems very important to the writers that the chain of command is respected. At the same time it agree that it comes into conflict with the values of individuality the Federation and Starfleet promotes.

And it's not like other starfeet officers never disobey orders. And usually when they save the day doing so, they are lightly reprimanded then thanked. Here Seven is just severely reprimanded.

It feels heavy handed from Kathryn's part.

Also I'm kinda bummed the training with EMH doesn't come up again in the episode.

This is Janeway call out day or what?

I don't think Kathryn is frightened by Seven's show of individuality, but she's clearly piss-off Seven didn't agree with her view on the situation and also disregarded a direct order.

And I fully agree with Seven that the punishment is motivated by Kat's bruised ego.

Plus the show make it rather apparent that Seven's actions saved Voyager here. I don't like the Hirogen, I don't like that Voyager couldn't deny their demands, but this was the situation. Seven saved the ship. i don't think Katheryn is that petty as to resent that last fact, but you could make the argument.

I'm going to side with Seven here and just say that ordering someone to do something that is abhorrent to them is crap leadership and borderline autoritarian.

You can try to make people see thing your way, but at some point you have to either find someone else who will do the thing you want or not do the thing.

Kat: "It is wrong to sacrifice another being to save our own life."
Seven: "I have observed taht you have been willing to sacrifice your own life to save the lives of your crew."

This is a brutal call out! Call EMH! XD

That's a nice sentiment Kat. I don't think I would have made the same call here, but that's what Starfleet officer have to stand up for.

The alien is from a very agressive and imperialist society. I probably would have let the Hirogen hunt it down and secured an understanding with the wolfes.

Knowing the current condition of the alien... I don't know. It seems a lost cause honestly, but letting the hunter have him wouldn't have felt right either.

Maybe the Hirogen's threat helped her make this decision. She has thrown bystander under the space bus before for the sake of the crew.

I love that the only reaction from Tuvok to Seven loosing her nerves and shooting a floating pad is just : "You missed."

Chakotay is, as always, bad at working with "no so friendly temporary allies". He kind of piss me off when he does that.

The game is cooperation, Chakotay, not "who has the biggest ego".
