The character on the left is Sandstorm. She's from a 2006 & 2007 Britcom called Hyperdrive. It starred Nick Frost. On the right is Airiam, from Star Trek Discovery in the 2017+. Am I the only one who thinks that Airiam was totally copied from Sandstorm?

It's possible I've seen this episode more than once before today but I don't remember it. I rewatched Season 1 when Season 2 was about to come out so I've seen Season 1 at least three times now.

Based on this being the first time we get real background Airiam, I feel like it's also the episode where she dies.

The Karma Barge was a large, paddle wheel-driven barge that served as the center for Haz Mazaro's gambling and black market businesses. It plied the Porathian Ocean disguised inside a hologram of a monstrous sea creature. Both Cleveland Booker and Captain Michael Burnham were familiar with the Karma Barge from their days as couriers. In 3190, Booker took Doctor Ruon Tarka there to obtain isolynium. Suspecting that he would do so, Burnham also arrived there on DSC-03 with Lieutenant Commander...
