Robert O'Reilly (born 25 March 1950; age 75) is an actor best known for his portrayal of Gowron on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. His first Star Trek appearance was in 1989 and his last was in 2003. He played Gowron for nine years. Jörg Hillebrand#StarTrekDS9's "Past Prologue" features the first appearance of the Bajoran phaser pistol. It will be seen much better in later episodes but the weapon has a highly stylized and simplified version of the familiar Bajoran emblem on its sides. It consists of a red oval with an off-center golden circle inside.
