@mklopez dropping a note that the petition to save *Starfleet Academy* will be hitting 30k signatures today, far more than the out of date number the CBR article cites.

It’s hard to know if the article is correct that writing off investments vs amortization over further seasons makes overall sense in the large financial restructuring that Skydance will need to do to absorb both Paramount and WBDiscovery.

It’s surely the case that the conglomerate will have cash flow issues with that level of junk bond load — it’s also critical to reassure investors that they can generate revenue. There’s a real risk that share values will tank at the next earnings call, and April Ad Week is imminent.

So far, the decisions on the broadcast news side have been disastrous for viewership and the related advertising revenue. Killing the intrinsic value of legacy capital to position themselves to get through the approval of the merger, whether IP or trusted broadcast brands, could kill the merger in the financial markets even if it gets FTC approval.

Fans of Starfleet Academy need to make their case to advertisers and to investors not just to Paramount executives.

The one for Prodigy season 2 reached 35k.

I think we need this one at 50k by April 10th.

I really want this one to be successful. I’d also like to see a blimp, skywriter or whatever to be going past the next big Paramount investor earnings call session and the major Ad Week in mid April.

Let’s challenge the quality of the decision makers at Paramount investor front of the people they seek money from!

Can someone please explain to me I which world a „flying crane“ makes any sense??? Like the moment you invent hovering, levitating or effortlessly making things fly… a crane becomes obsolete!

I only watched the first season a couple of weeks ago and I quite enjoyed it – it’s clearly aimed at a younger audience, but to me it’s Trek through & through. as with every new Star Trek incarnation, it takes the core premise and asks the questions (as does all good sci-fi) “what does Star Trek have to say about the human condition today, and what parts of today’s society shall we hold the mirror up to in this moment?” all while leaning in to all the tropes and traditions of previous Star Trek shows, books, & other media

but as usual, a subset of whiny man-babies on the internet hate it and are very vocal about that 🤪 their small-minded, racist, & misogynist bleatings have been heard far and wide 🤢

and of course, the current moment that the show is holding the mirror up to is one in which people who hold reactionary, anti-progress, anti-diversity views have been emboldened to express those views even more virulently than usual 😩

a coda, in anticipation of perhaps receiving some negative comments:

– I’m not saying that if you dislike or even hate Star Trek: Starfleet Academy you’re either a whiny man-baby or a reactionary who hates progress & diversity – you are of course welcome to dislike it or even “disown” it if it’s not to your taste or standards

– if I’m not describing you, then I’m not describing you 💁‍♀️
