I wrote a little tool to make running remote commands easier while using SSHFS mounts.

ssx

Companion utility for SSHFS to execute commands on the remote machine.

What happens if you move a file into a folder that is currently being moved (mv command) between drives (it’s multiple gigabytes, so takes a while)? Seems there’s a good chance it’s going to get deleted (or is that only if you’re using SSHFS?).

Mount Remote Directories with SSHFS on Ubuntu 24.04

This article covers the use of SSHFS to mount remote directories over SSH on Ubuntu 24.04. It highlights the simple installation process, ease of access to remote files, secure data transfer, and convenient unmounting. SSHFS streamlines workflows for document editing and file management by integrating remote files into the local system seamlessly.

I’ve discovered sshfs and am pleased enough with this workaround to avoid the freeze.

It’s like file sharing, but over SSH and you don’t need to do any special settings on the host system—other than SSH access—to use it.

Wow, watching videos streamed over #sshfs actually works. That's kinda sick!!!

I mean, it's like... a server... for files! A file... server! What a novel concept!!!1!!11!!

🤣

I've always suspected as much that you could, but never bothered looking into how or confirmed it - but yea as suspected, on #Linux you could easily, quickly mount a remote directory from a different system via #SSH using #sshfs.

Helpful when need something from a different PC, but don't really wanna copy it over (also using SSH) to your (working) machine - but this is a temporary/one time thing so setting up a remote directory via
#SMB or wtv isn't really worth it.. so you do this instead.

Freaking awesome. Should prolly write a quick guide on how to do so on my linux-wiki repo.

yt-dlp might leave temporary files behind, after processing the whole lot - fails to tidy up.

i'm seeing a "*.mp4.part-Frag182.part" file, on my NAS.

Use case: via #sshfs mount, via rr-mode bond .. #Linux #Network #HomeLab ... edit: more context #Ubuntu LTS server, #Manjaro client

It's not really a filesystem in user space if you need to install a kernel extension to make it work, now is it?

All I want is #sshfs to work on #macOS. No I don't want to reboot. That's the whole point of the "user space" thing.

MacFUSE isn't.
