Small flocks of Cedar Waxwings (aka "Seidenschwanz") have arrived.

In honor of Female Bird Day—this weekend (https://femalebirdday.wordpress.com/)—the female Cape May Warbler gave me a couple poses as she pecked around. #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #warbler #warblers #SpringMigration #MNastodon #FemaleBirdDay #nature #NaturePhotography
Most of the time, chasing warblers is an exercise in futility. Once in a while, one of them poses for a decent shot. Cape May Warbler, male. Grand Marais, Minnesota harbor this morning. #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #warbler #warblers #SpringMigration #MNastodon
Went to the woods and marsh for birds and lo it is ended. Heard only one warbler, a Tennessee, and that was the only bird I heard or saw that is not here to nest for the summer. What a difference from a week ago when the wood resounded with song! Glad to have the wood thrushes and tanagers and a few kinds of flycatchers sticking around anyway. We can thank the insects for that. #birds #SpringMigration

Never had one of these at the feeder. Must have had a long day arriving here this evening. Indigo Bunting and a Chipping Sparrow.
Spooky bird. Photo taken through the admittedly dirty window.

Spring migration beginning to end. 😭
Will we make it to another one? 💙🪶💛🪽💚🐦‍⬛🩵

How did the Warblers know that the Blackflies would be out in full force today? So many Warblers arrived: Tennessee, Nashville, Cape May, Blackburnian, and so many more. No lack of insects to complain about.
The bugs didn't bite us yet. Any day now.

A rarely seen bird in our garden: a Baltimore Oriole. He tried to get some syrup, clinging upside down to the hummingbird feeder, with limited success. Don't have an orange in the house 😢.
He looks judgmental!

Today I saw an ovenbird bathing and drinking among mossy stones by the woodland spring. It felt like a privilege to stand quietly and watch it do what its ancestors have done for countless generations, as if there were nothing new under the sun. #birds #BirdsOfMastodon #SpringMigration

(Note: they're called ovenbirds not because you put them in the oven but because the shape of their nests reminded people of old fashioned baking ovens)
