Ice went out on the Tanana River at Nenana Monday evening, extending one of Alaska's very best climate relate time series to 110 years. Although break-up was later than normal by 21st century standards, this would have been a bit early for the ice to go out prior to 1960. #akwx #Climate #Spring2026

2025-26 winter snowpack at Fairbanks is gone, with NWS obs site (UAF West Ridge) down to less than one inch snow depth, about 10 days later than average. This is the fourth time since 2018 that the snowpack survived into May. There's no long term trend in meltout date. #akwx #Climate #Spring2026
