This mural is a reversion of one I painted in Miami in 2015 for @wynwoodwallsofficial .As in the previous one, I was invited to work in one of the main immigration destinations of the United States. For this reason I decided to reinterpret this work in San Antonio, TX. Although they have different backgrounds, both communities, in addition to a common dream, carry with them the sounds, the colors and the flavors of their homelands, along with the challenge of integrating and preserving their traditions in a society that tends towards homogeneity. 'It is very important for me to work with context, and this time it was the wall of a school. Yet I am UKRAINIAN, and I cannot be silent about the war. I was asked by some locals to remove details from this mural that referred to the war. I did my best to say something about Ukraine and, at the same time, to make the local community and the children from the school happy.
So, there are 2 different stories in the same mural: The fantastic and the real. The first is about a boy playing with a globe. The ear shows that the Earth is alive and can hear us. The boy is conjuring a genie and making a wish with nice, bright letters. The wish is for перемога, which means victory in Ukrainian. The victory of light over darkness.
І woke up around 5 a.m. on the 24th of February, when I heard the sound of explosions. The war in Ukraine had begun. The “globe-vase” is in danger and filled with the fire of war. The war inside the vase could destroy it. We can already see some cracks appearing. The boy in the embroidered Ukrainian shirt is trying to save the world. The civilised world can hear the voice of Ukraine and supports us in our fight. The smoke from the war shows Ukrainian letters in random positions, but we will put them right, and we will get П Е Р Е М О Г А, which means our Victory over russian aggression. 'They titled their mural "The Catcher in the Rye" in reference to the book by Jerome David Salinger (1951).
The heart, the subject of many of their works, is at the center of the mural. The artists share these commonalities that punctuate their respective lives: emotion and passion. These feelings of deep love have always guided their actions, even to the point of losing their reason.
