Aber aus gutem Grund: Die lebensechte #Skulptur ist eine #Kunstaktion eines belgischen Kollektivs, die auf das Verschwinden der #Wale und den Klimawandel aufmerksam macht. Der #Wal wurde schon in einigen europäischen Städten gezeigt.

This remarkably life-like #sculpture is an #art installation by a Belgian art collective, created to raise awareness of the decline of #whales and the impact of climate change. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1820, the #whaling ship #Essex was attacked & sunk by a #SpermWhale in the South Pacific. A crew of 20 escaped in boats. Three stayed in the Pitcairns, 17 continued farther to South America; only cannibalism kept five alive. The events inspired #MobyDick.

In 1970 on #ThisDayInHistory, the #Oregon Dept. of Transportation did an incredibly stupid thing. A #SpermWhale had beached in Florence, and they blew up the carcass with dynamite. The #ExplodingWhale hurled massive hunks of whale ~240 metres, damaging cars and leaving a stench.

The oldest whales in the ocean were alive before 'Moby-Dick' and have the harpoons to prove it
