Another special interest… 🎶

...for as long as this one will last... 😉 I have mentioned in previous posts, but for those that just came across this post, I will share a bit about it... Due to the way my brain works at times, I get these special interests, where I can be focused, almost obsessed even, on something. When I was re-reading the Dan Brown "Robert Langdon" book series at the end of last year, early this year, I was all into the movies and several of the songs. Before that, I was all focussed on laying puzzles. And now, after waking up one night, with a song from the movie of "Evita" (1996) in my head... And since then, I have watched the movie, even grabbed a better quality version, as the DVD didn't look that nice on my TV (and it didn't have English subs), and I have listened to the soundtrack on Qobuz many times. And, I know it's not the best movie, and I have never been a huge Madonna fan... But there is something about that soundtrack that just has me in its grip. For as long as this obsession will last... My browser favorites are a window into my current special interests or concerns, which can vary from day to day. I am constantly reorganizing them into relevant categories, and shunting some to a "More" subfolder per category that are important but less relevant.

People would get better answers by asking a room full of autistic persons rather than ChatGPT.

Current micro-obsession: Omniharp and similar instruments 😆

My grandma had one I used to play all the time when I would visit, and I recently found a mini version that arrived this weekend: https://minichord.com/

I am still learning about how to do all this mini music stuff, but I had so much fun messing around I hope I'll be able to record some stuff one of these days 🤞

Losing interest

Before I was diagnosed with AuDHD, I always wondered why I could be very interested, fixated even, on certain things for a few very intense moments, and then, suddenly without cause, just totally lose that interest... I had never heard about hyperfocus and/or "autistic special interests" (more about that here). I just could not understand it. And it annoyed me a lot, especially when the fixation/focus had made me invest (money) in this interest, and then it "just" ends... I've been browsing the web a bit about this, and tried to collect some info on it. I know that the autistic side deals differently with the interests compared to the ADHD side. And, of couse, these two mix it up. I found several things, copied them all, and then... I cheated a bit... 🫣I copied all the bits I found interesting into an AI app, and asked if it could compile a nice list for me. I know, people don't like this. But, these days, due to missing my usual routine, due to all the last-minute extra things here and there, I am just so low on spoons... So, I'd rather be honest about having asked it for help. But, I did find the info that I wanted to share using the mighty Duck search engine. […]

A quotation from Teddy Roosevelt

In the final result, it mattered not one whit whether the movement was in favor of one class or of another. The outcome was equally fatal, whether the country fell into the hands of a wealthy oligarchy which exploited the poor or whether it fell under the domination of a turbulent mob which plundered the rich. In both cases there resulted violent alternations between tyranny and disorder, and a final complete loss of liberty to all citizens — destruction in the end overtaking the class which had for the moment been victorious as well as that which had momentarily been defeated. The death-knell of the Republic had rung as soon as the active power became lodged in the hands of those who sought, not to do justice to all citizens, rich and poor alike, but to stand for one special class and for its interests as opposed to the interests of others.

A quotation from Molly Ivins

Our political system has been thoroughly corrupted, and by the usual suspect — money, what else? The corruption is open, obscene, and unmistakable. The way campaigns are financed is a system of legalized bribery. We have a government of special interests, by special interests, and for special interests. And that will not change until we change the way campaigns are financed.

Essay (1998-01), “Introduction,” You Got to Dance with Them What Brung You (1998)
