I’m still trying to wake up. It’s supposed to be my morning quiet time, but there’s noise coming from the kitchen. We’re having a new stove delivered today, and my wife is getting everything ready for the old one to go. She keeps miscellaneous pans in the drawer underneath, so she’s emptying that out.

What set all this in motion? Oddly enough, it wasn’t the stove at first—it was the microwave above it. It stopped working a couple of days ago, so we went to buy a replacement. While we were at the store, my wife mentioned she’d been noticing some performance issues with the oven on the stove, so she decided we might as well replace that too. Both appliances are over twenty years old, so maybe it really is time.

The delivery guys showed up while I was typing. They brought the new stove in and hauled the old one out to the truck. Unfortunately, there was a “but.” Because of the way the plug was positioned and the design of the back of the new stove, it wouldn’t slide in flush like the old one. That created a gap behind it—and worse, the oven handle stuck out just enough to block a nearby kitchen drawer. Technically, we could open the drawer, but only if we opened the oven door first, which wasn’t going to work.

So, we had them take the new stove back to the store and reinstall the old one. I could tell the delivery guys were frustrated—they’re on a tight schedule, and none of this was their fault. I gave them a small tip to help turn the mood around. C’est la vie.

It’s a bit of a letdown. Now we wait for the return to process correctly and then try the whole new‑stove thing again.

The microwave arrives next week. Here’s hoping that part goes more smoothly.

Yesterday, we trudged through the heavy, humid air for miles to catch a trolley that promised a riveting tour of the city. We hopped on and off at a few stops, one of which was a riverfront shopping area—its name slips my mind. There, we picked up a handful of trinkets; for me, it was two Harley-Davidson T-shirts, priced in true tourist-trap fashion. Still, I now have two Savannah, Georgia Harley shirts to add to the collection. It’s a thing among Harley enthusiasts. I don’t ride much anymore, but I still have the bike—so why not have the shirts? From there, our path led us up a tall, steep flight of steps, so steep it felt more like a mountain ascent than a city stroll. By the time we made it back to our abode, I was completely spent and collapsed into the first overstuffed chair just inside the doorway.
