An imaginary conversation between myself and a spammer. It came in the form of an email. The spammer's grammar is verbatim. I've just reordered some of the lines.

Spammer: Dear Friends, Hello!

Me: Hello, but I'm not a system. Why the plural???

Spammer: Hope we to have pleasure cooperation!

Me: YES! Pleasure cooperation is always welcome! Pleasure me, NOW!

Spammer: We are very glad to write to you this e-mail.

Me: And I am very glad to you write to me this e-mail, but where is the pleasure?

Spammer: Excuse me for interrupting you.

Me: Oh, you're not interrupting. I was awaiting your email with antici.... pation. I'm still waiting for the pleasure, BTW.

(The rest of the email was bland.)

  • Obviously this is just a "Ping eMail" to check validity of list entries, with the sole aim to then use the validated eMail oneself.to continue the Scam or validate it further against i.e. #PayPal and others for your classic #RefundScam!

@[email protected] I agree. I'd expect a collector to at least have enough insight into other collectors to provide one or more general categories of what's in the collection. I'm just kind of surprised that scamming at scale has apparently gotten advanced enough to target such a tiny niche interest.

We got "medical" news from "real" "doctors" who went to "universities."

You open the message, and you find that their "source" is not "CNN" but "FOX News."

(I am very unsure what the point of the quotes is. It's not like saying your have "medical" news is any defense against fraud. "You cannot sue me I said I had 'medical' news, not medical news.")

“My comment/link in the replies” = “I'm trying to track how effective this social media platform is, because I don’t actually interact with any human beings on it; I only use it to promote my business/blog. I’m a #spammer.”

Yep, that’s what they are. Sometimes #spammers we like, but still spammers.

I wish I knew which fake #bitcoin Exchange #Kitboga uses, cuz I'd rather try to make those #spammers suffer in it.

  • But obviously, the first rule of #Spam is: NEVER REPLY!

My biggest political regret of all time is using Act Blue to make donations.

The endless text and email spam generated by that decision is literally unstoppable.

There's no universal opt out option available, and they claim zero responsibility for the actions of any entity that uses the data their platform provides to its users.

This should be illegal in all contexts, but data brokers are immune from all consequences.

Act Blue is a data broker, über alles

DO NOT USE THEM

@dalias Even better: Instead of replying, complain at the #telco regulator.
