Got some interesting food to try out. I have not been impressed with a number brands in the past, but these are some other brands from Europe, with the ex eption of Space Food, which is from the USA.

I once tried a bit of freeze dried ice icream, so quite excited to have been able to get some from an EU shop. It reckon if I can take one pack on 5-day trail, it could do as interesting snack in the late afternoon for one or two days.

There are a number of other deserts in here, because on a multi-day trip, I like to treat myself to one dessert. The Creme Catalana is definitely a novel item.

As to food, the three brands are Adventure Foods (NL), Tent Meals (UK) and Lyo (PL).

I am definitely interested to see if the bobotie will taste anything like the traditional food I know.

The two meals from Tent Meals are interesting, as they are the eat-in-a-packet kind. It makes for smaller packages, but means rehydration needs to happen in a pot. It makes me wonder if I should make up some pot cozy for my MSR Titan kettle.

Debugging your dinner? Apparently, future astronauts might be fueled by protein made from scratch, literally out of the air. No more 'It works on my machine' excuses for your space rations. Seriously, what's the weirdest thing you've ever had for dinner?

This New Way to Make Protein Could Be What Feeds Astronauts on Long Space Journeys

Resupply isn't so easy when you're traveling to the moon and Mars. Science may have a smart new alternative.

There are #bacteria 🧫 on Earth that enjoy perchlorates as a food. The organisms could not only get rid of a toxic component in Martian 🔴 dirt to make it farmable 🌱, but perhaps also help produce breathable oxygen for #astronauts https://www.sciencenews.org/article/mars-farming-harder-martian-regolith-soil

Farming on Mars will be a lot harder than 'The Martian' made it seem

Lab experiments developing and testing fake Martian dirt are proving just how difficult it would be to farm on the Red Planet.

There's some fun stuff in this week's Mission Report that's more earthbound than normal - ant yoghurt fermentation and rice cultivation in Cambridgeshire. There's also some #tardigrade action.

But don't worry, there's still plenty about #SpacePlants and #astrobotany!
