Another go at #comet 12P Pons-Brooks from the Wimmera this evening when it was at 5 degrees elevation, heading down into the smoke haze.

A single 20s exposure and a stack of 8 of them, stretched lots, cropped around the comet. A definite tail now.

That faint line at bottom right is QF694 from Adelaide to Melbourne, just crossing the border.

Fighting Dragons of Ara

NGC6188 is a fairly bright nebula in the southern Milky Way, about 3800 light years away. The little star cluster at the top is *just* visible by eye under good skies.

Only 12 minutes of data, so about as noisy as you can get. I remembered to focus using the mask before starting!

Yes! Got it! Comet 12P Pons-Brooks from inner Melbourne (Royal Park) at 6:45pm this evening. This is a tracked 5 second exposure at 200mm (cropped). At top right you can see Jupiter flanked by some moons.

The weird jittery dark trails across the entire image are flying foxes, which take off at sunset and fly over the park on the way to sources of nectar.

I picked up an NVIDIA Shield to run my new Plex server from and... I don't know why it didn't occur to me that it would need additional storage space to hold onto a library of any decent size.

But while I should have expected it, 12 GB *still* seems kind of puny for a media and gaming device.
