Greece, 22 migrants die after six days adrift. Two suspected smugglers, aged 19 and 22, arrested.

Twenty-two migrants who set off from Libya have died after six days of drifting navigation aboard their inflatable boat in the Mediterranean Sea, and their bodies were thrown into the sea. This was reported by the survivors to the Greek coast guard. Twenty-seven people, including a woman and a minor, whose nationality was not specified, were rescued by a vessel from the European agency Frontex off the Greek island of Crete, according to a brief statement by the coast guard.

Two survivors were transported to hospital in Heraklion, on the island of Crete. Based on testimonies, the coast guard added that the boat had set off on March 21st from Tobruk, a port city in eastern Libya, bound for Greece. “During the journey, the passengers lost their bearings and remained at sea for six days without food or water.” The bodies of the victims “were thrown into the sea on the order of one of the traffickers.” Greek authorities arrested two men from South Sudan, aged 19 and 22, who are believed to be the traffickers.

Blue Nile RSF-SPLM-N diversion underlines Ethiopian threat with the fall of Kurmuk

This marks the first success of a new #UAE /Tasis (the RSF/SPLM-N alliance) to open a diversionary front in Blue Nile state, with a rear basis in Benishangul-Gumuz (Northwestern #Ethiopia).

A SAF/SPLA-IO alliance means, at least temporarily, the threat from #SouthSudan subsided, or is of a much lesser importance.
