Just a few miles from us down on the Gulf Coast, the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum stands as a powerful monument to resilience and creativity in Mississippi. The Frank Gehry design is a Hurricane Katrina survivor. When the storm hit in 2005, it was still under construction.

The hurricane winds were so intense that a casino barge parked in Biloxi Harbor was blown inland and heavily damaged the site.

Just like the rest of the Gulf Coast, it was an uphill battle to recover after the storm. But through the tireless work of the community and local government, the Museum was completed and thrives to this day.

Did you know there's a Frank Gehry building in Mississippi? The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum in Biloxi is named for George Ohr, the "Mad Potter of Biloxi," whose amazing early 20th Century creations prefigure the later avant-garde art movements. It's also named in memory of Annette O'Keefe, the wife of Biloxi mayor and philanthropist Jeremiah O'Keefe, without whose support the Museum would have never happened.

Once upon a time we had a lush microclover lawn. Then we left town for a couple weeks to attend a summer conference and returned to find it half dead from drought and heat. Total heart-breaker. It never recovered. So we're starting over, this time with Zoysia plugs which will hopefully fair the highs and lows of our climate zone better than clover could. Hopefully we can post a picture in a year or two and it will be back to looking as good as this. 🤞🤞
