We also mark the arrival of winter at this time: although #SnowMother does a season long dance of advancing and receding, in recent years we've generally had snow that remains, in places, from around this time until spring! The few centimetres we received the other day is gone from roads, sunny sides of buildings and trees, etc, but remains in shady bare spots etc. The beauty of a new season begins.

Yesterday I walked into the office via Brincliffe Edge Woods, Sheffield. I was interested to see a wild service tree planted. This was something I had been thinking of planting in my own mini coppice but worried about fireblight. Something has taken out lots of council planted Whitebeams nearby. Anyway, here's a link to the organisation managing the wood where I saw the tree:
