Times change, wills change,

Times change, wills change,
Being changes, confidence changes:
The whole world is composed of change,
Always taking new qualities.

Continually we see new things,
Different in every way from hope:
From evil remain the sorrows in memory,
And from good (if there was any) the longing.

Time covers the ground with a green blanket,
Which was once covered with cold snow,
And in me turns the sweet song into tears.

And apart from this daily change,
Another change causes greater astonishment,
That it no longer changes as it used to.

For this week’s #ThursdayBooksandBeer I’m reading Practice, the debut novel by Rosalind Brown, which delves into the mind of an Oxford student trying to write an essay on Shakespeare’s sonnets. Brown’s short sections are pleasingly sonnet-like themselves. I’ve paired it with a hand-pulled Vintage Ale from Inner North Brewing, for that English feel. “For a moment she surveys her long series of hot meals and movements and solid nights in bed that are directed towards this: the close understanding of poems on a page. It seems both appalling and entirely appropriate.” #reading #literature #Shakespeare #sonnets #craftbeer

New blog post with a new poem.

Sonnet 159: Morbidity

A sonnet about facing the shadow that takes centre stage as one's hour of strutting and fretting nears its end.

Happy Sonnets Day. I had #159 ready to post, but I wrote it when the black dog of melancholy was upon me, and now I think it's a bit too dark for the front page. Some other time perhaps. You can find my other new sonnets by checking the blog's Title Index under S. My old sonnets (melancholic and non) you should be able to find without assistance.

New (long) post: Commiserating With Mary

How fair Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton, came to be the subject of some of my sonnets. It’s not the story you’ve heard. Plus: Tom Howard’s gruesome 1572 execution warrant, transcribed by yours truly.

The email newsletter service I was experimenting with to send my @sonnets's daily sonnet to an email list is not as free as I need it to be.

Since my Sonnet a Day is a labor of love and earns no money to pay for itself, I am on the hunt for a good, no cost (super low cost?) rss feed to email list service.

Any ideas?

Florescermos para resistir
as erupções da vida
como a Red Heliconia
da Montserrat magnífica.

Assim é o melhor do amor
que nós dois queremos,
e ele para nós virá
no tempo que merecemos.

O amor é doce dádiva
para quem sabe o receber,
e faz de tudo para o manter.

Se sou o seu último pensamento
da noite como você é do meu,
algo diz que já sou tua e você é meu.

No solo da magnífica
Saint Marteen moldar
um coração com pétalas
de um gigante Flamboyant.

Nos teus olhos o Ano Novo
e ir com todo o gosto
ao interessa e nos compete
sem dar satisfação a ninguém.

Pactuar com amor total
o compromisso de sedução
mútua como nossa religião.

Deixar que a brisa antilhana
guie a nossa caminhada
e da vida não pedir mais nada.
