New blog post: An open letter to Bandcamp
"Thank you so much for taking a stance against generative AI and banning AI-generated music from Bandcamp."
"Suno is, of course, the biggest platform for making generative AI music, the very thing you are banning from your site."
"Hope to see an alternative pop up that is more in line with your Bandcamp Fair Trade Music Policy."

So I'm currently trying out bandsintown.com. It's an okay-ish replacement for #Songkick, but not a great one.
- You can import your favorite artists from Spotify, Apple Music, etc. but not from Bandcamp.
- You can follow concert locations, which is nice.
- I'm missing "I'm interested"/"I'm going" for events (and use that history for recommendations as well)
- Same for "Don't recommend band/genre"
(I have so many more ideas about recommendations!)
"Why is Songkick sending me email?"

So, I had a look around for alternatives to Songkick and Bandsintown popped up. Here's my experience so far:
Firstly, Songkick doesn't have an export, and Bandsintown has import from various services that I don't use. By hacking around I mostly automated my following list (details coming in another post).
I found setting the location is worse. Songkick lets you choose locations to track, whereas BiT has location + radius, which doesn't take into account transport links.
⚠️PSA to my fellow music folks⚠️
#Songkick has been acquired by #Suno and will transfer your data to them without your consent if you still have an account on their website.
https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/comments/1t2v23b/suno_takes_control_over_songkick_and_its_user/
"Suno is now the ‘controller’ of Songkick user data – and is hiring a GM to wire it into its AI music platform"
"Suno has formally assumed control of Songkick user data — presumably including artist preferences and location information built up through years of Spotify integration. The news comes five months after Suno acquired the concert discovery platform from Warner Music Group."
