No.813: "The time is October..."
Lord knows where Something Weird dredged up 'Passion In The Sun' from, but this 1964 'Roughie' is far out. Cuban gangsters kidnap a stripper with a bizarrely long sequence of her fighting one of them in a moving car. This is followed by an absurdly long stripper/gangster/cop chase sequence with a bass-driven soundtrack so repetitive that it wouldn't be out of place on an OM album.
Believing that she's got away, our heroine then goes skinny-dipping for no apparent reason! Oh, and the action is punctuated by sequences of strippers on stage. Nothing to do with the plot. Just strippers stripping. Oh and just to add some horror to the mix, there's an escaped circus freak to terrorise our young lovely.
I thought I knew what 60s American trash cinema was, but this is the absolute trashiest. It's a time capsule of sleaze so profound that it's almost art.

No.812: It's 1968. It's 'Ghosts Of Hanley House'.
A couple of jabronies make a bet where if the one guy can spend a night in 'haunted' Hanley House, he gets a Ferrari. This is apparent despite the horrible sound mixing.
Jabronie 1 doesn't want to go it alone so he ropes in a few gullible yahoos to join him. Sound continues to be a problem with dialogue dropping entirely only to be replaced by the jumpin' soundtrack. Anyhow, this is a pathetically scare-free affair with nothing to recommend it.

No.811: "Tough enough for you, flatfoot! Ya don't scare me!"
1953’s 'Violated' is a noirish psycho-thriller about a serial killer with a hair fetish. It also has a score that would make your average gothabilly fan shiver. There's a bunch of psycho-babble chucked in, but I'd say that it's well researched enough to ring true, even if it does deaden the pace somewhat.
Nobody would confuse this with being a great movie and it's slow-paced despite the brief running time. Mind you, I'll eat my trousers if this hadn't influenced 'Peeping Tom' and 'Maniac'.

No.810: Larry Buchanan was responsible for such monstrosities as The Eye Creatures, Zontar the Thing From Venus and Mars Needs Women.
In 1964 he terrorised an unsuspecting public with 'The Naked Witch', a 'Nudie-Cutie' docu-drama which reckons that the dark ages came after the middle ages in the longest and most boring preamble in movie history.
As for the plot, a student studying witchcraft in central Texas happens upon the town of Luckenbach (a real place) where he finds a village that hasn't changed much since German immigrants first settled there. He discovers a local legend about The Luckenback Witch and - of course - he decides to exhume her. This - of course - returns her to life.
This is poorly made, poorly acted and not particularly interesting, although it did brisk business, making back ten times what it cost to make. Some critics have stated that this movie was quite influential, which is laughable considering that Mario Bava's exceptional 'Mask of Satan' had been made four years earlier.
