somesurprises (lower case, one word) is a Settle-based band led by singer-guitarist Natasha El-Sergany whose music sits at the natural meeting point between dream pop, shoegaze, and psychedelic. In a way, it's dream pop without the chime, shoegaze without the wall of distortion, and psychedelic without any trippy bombast. Instead, it is hazy in a dream-like, floating sound with a carefully calibrated shimmer and swirl that reverberates in a lush production. The band tends to proceed at a deliberate pace, sometimes settling in where they are, other times working towards a swell in their relatively relaxed pulse rate. This is music that intends to place the audience in a meditative state while quietly steering them away from any potential distractions.
