Today I learned something that perhaps should have been obvious, #Solomonic Magic is like how people labelled #Cake and Cookie over the centuries, with few hard and fast rules distinguishing what they are.
To oversimplify, what the Mages of old called their #Grimoires make it Solomonic.
Similarly, if you call a sweet yeast leavened bread a cake because itβs used in a dessert, itβs a cake.

Shoshanna, my collaborator/translator/manuscript expert wrote a little more about the sorts of extra research she's excited to dig into on this project. Hopefully, we'll be able to raise enough to make all this happen: "The amulets are often based on unpredictable (and occasionally erroneous) ciphers, which usually take a lot of work to unravel. Additionally, many of the amulets include marginal notes correcting or commenting on the amulets themselves (e.g., correcting a mistaken cipher or Zodiac reference). Translating these notes is much harder than the actual amulet, as they are written rather sloppily and intensely abbreviated. For example, one note reads ΧΧ "Χ Χ©Χ¦βΧβ¦ which is an abbreviation for ΧΧ Χ¨ΧΧ ΧΧ Χ©Χ¦Χ¨ΧΧ ΧΧΧΧΧͺβ¦, or βand it looks to me as though it should sayβ¦β (a correction on the pentagram). Some of these abbreviations are quite obscure, which make them into a cipher themselves. Often the notes or the explanatory text beneath the pentagram mention names of entities, historical figures, or texts which are not immediately clear, and tracking down these references requires quite a bit of work. The goal of the extra work involved in these steps is to connect us more closely with the scribe/s involved in copying and commenting on this manuscript, who were magical experts and connected to a chain of magical transmission which Iβm excited to access."
