A workshop on the construction of #solar cookers was held this Saturday, June 6, in #Madrid, #Spain, with the aim of sending them in July to schools in #SantiagoDeCuba.

The workshop resulted in the construction of 13 concentrating #SolarCookers.

Solar cookers are mainly built with cardboard and aluminum foil, they are detachable and easy to move. To operate it also requires a pot, preferably dark, and a glass bowl or even the door of an old washing machine, elements that allow the greenhouse effect to be generated to concentrate the solar heat.

At the end of the construction, two cookers were tested in the courtyard and it was shown that it reached boiling in a few minutes.

Thanks to this system it is possible to cook food using only the #energy of the sun, without the need for electricity, gas or firewood.

TALES OF TECH SOLUTIONS…
Lunch time. So, let’s get the cooker out, toss some suasages in the frypan, cook then until thet are dark and crispy on the outside, pour on the tomato sauce and eat.

It must have been something like that which went through this couples head as lunchtime approached. They were out in the countryside near Windsor, NSW, not all that far inland of Sydney.

Their solar stove folds so it is easier to transport. I think it is a homemade job. Whatever, it works. Soon those sausages were sizzling, their aroma making those nearby hungry.

Devices like this used to be called intermediate technologies because thay sat between low-tech and hi-tech on the technology development scale.
