There's a flip-side to this: people with nefarious reasons to provide corporations with false personal information are still, from the corporations' perspective, paying customers. No #technology corporation actually wants to waste too much time inquiring into actual crimes, not when it's much easier to present a superificial appearance of being concerned with "data integrity" by pursuing superficial incongruities through automated mechanism.
Oops did you change your last name at some point because of a marriage or a personal choice? A #software corporation feels free to regard that incongruity as prima facie evidence of criminal intention, because it seems every #softwareengineer fancies themselves a detective these days.

If you write code for a living - and especially if you're relatively early in your career and are dealing with imposter syndrome - do I have a story for you.
For context, I've been writing code for a very long time. I was playing with the VIC 20 my dad bought when I was 6 or 7 years old.
Anyway, a feature that we have turned off in our testing environment suddenly started running, breaking several automated tests. After it wasn't quickly resolved I went to dig into it, because it was a feature I had originally implemented.
I was completely stumped. So on a team call I shared my screen to show where the issue was. And someone pointed out that the code on my screen didn't look like what they were seeing.
The problem? I've been working recently in another codebase and, when I went to investigate this error, I didn't do a `git pull`.
So yes, I've been banging on keyboards for over 40 years. I've been paid to bang on a keyboard for 30. And I make stupid mistakes in front of everyone.
So, friend, you're doing fine.

I am on the other side of a great abyss from the nerdbros: I once tried to settle into a #SoftwareEngineer career at #Amazon and before half a year was over I fled for the preservation of my sanity and my happiness and ended up preferring to do minimum wage work, shunning the #programming world. I stopped computer programming for a long long time after that, except for a few strange and very short interludes usually prompted by something outside of the computing realm. I had gotten interested in programming chiefly because of its adjacency to #mathematics and #science, so occasionally I'd want to do something sciency or mathy with the help of programming. But it's taken me a very very long time to deal with the fallout from those six months at Amazon dot com.
Hardly any nerdbro would ever make a decision like that, I don't think. They remain committed to regarding the computer and computing as their ticket to a life of ease and plenty.
