Melbourne cinema cancels screening of Oscar-winning doco after receiving threats.

The documentary, #NoOtherLand is the joint work of #Palestinian and #Israeli filmmakers, and examines the ongoing violent illegal theft of Palestinian land in the #WestBank by Israeli settlers.

The screening was organised by Jewish Council of Australia. Those using threats to shut it down (presumably pro-Israeli far-right supporters of the violence documented in the film) are likely motivated by hatred: of Palestinians and/or Arabs and/or Muslims, but also of the myriad Jewish people who don't support apartheid, land theft and genocide.

Will a single politician from either major party (who have often turned calls for 'social cohesion' into a weapon to attack anti-genocide activism) name the threats against this cinema as both Islamophobic *and* antisemitic?

"A new report shows when it comes to social cohesion, we're losing to our neighbours across the Tasman, and on course to look more like the US or UK.
....
the new findings should be a "wake-up call" that New Zealand cannot be complacent over the polarisation seen in the UK (Brexit), US (Trump) and Europe (far-right groups).
...
if we don't act on the evidence in front of us, we will become similarly polarised."

'On every dimension, NZ is falling behind': The struggle for 'social cohesion'

The results of a new report are so poor they even surprised the author.

@phillboyack I point that Labor will hardly budge from its neoliberal positions on immigration or even funding infrastructure, etc to deal with it.

Is it really worth sacrificing Australia's social cohesion just to boost aggregate GDP figures while the average Australian-born citizen suffers?

Online brain rot is undermining our ability to tell meaningful stories

While social media has the potential to empower storytelling, it can also spread misinformation and lead to brain rot.

These acts by Murdoch's yellow press engineer to incite hatred, manufacture conflict, sow division & make us all less safe. Those same politicians who wax lyrical about #SocialCohesion are oddly silent today. Telegraph editor Ben English as questions to answer about his role in this debacle.

Misreading Ireland's Programme for Government : Why "Local & Social" Sustainable Mobility might be the biggest "Big Picture Stuff" we have…

Introduction Two important documents of interest to sustainable mobility advocates and professionals were published recently, thousands of miles apart but with direct relevance to each other. In New York, the US National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) announced the publication

But perhaps, instead, we could try things like, “I see your plight,” “I’m sorry things are this way,” and even… at times, and if it feels appropriate… taking steps to help them (depending how strong we feel at the time and what we can do without breaking ourselves as well).

@michaelvera Denial acts as a catalyst for radicalization, invalidating grievances and deepening societal divisions. This cycle can escalate tensions, making it essential to confront denial to prevent further radicalization. By addressing these underlying issues, we can break the cycle and foster understanding, ultimately promoting a more cohesive society. 🌍✌️ #Radicalization #SocialCohesion #AddressingDenial #Unity #Peace
