Religions were the first forms of governments.
Let that sink in.

Many countries and their laws are still affected by religious beliefs.
Many wars are still initiated in names of religions.

What is religion, other than a form of mass influence extortion, in the name of abstract and misinterpreted human values ?
What is religion other than an excuse to extort political actions in the name of "God", to people who don't know better ?

Primary value of majority of religions in the world is love.
How possibly could we let media, governments and movements, distort it to the point where we use it as an excuse to kill, destroy, abuse and take away freedom ?

Sigh...

As i had an discussion this week with a student, who sees everything other than physics and computer sciences as "inferior", met enough people believing History is a waste of time because "everyone can read" and I got this feeling here too sometimes:

Because you are working in a #mint and especially in #computerscience you are not an expert on other subjects like history, #socialscience etc.

That's why we have different subjects in academic world and world in general.

And no, you aren't the polymath, because you have some knowledge of different things.

And no, because you use a Computer, you don't have a world formula who the world works.

Can someone please tell me of their experience as an academic, specifically social sciences, using #Linux distros? Along with #FOSS? Im curious to know if people were satisfied with this combination for several years.

Dear #socialscience and #psychology people

Please explain to me what's going on here.

Some guys set up a challenge in which they ask (random convenience sampled) guys if they think they could beat a #woman #tennis champion. Of those that say they could, they pick a few and tennis is played. It goes about as you might think, with the woman beating them handily.

What I want to know, is what those volunteer guys were thinking. Did they honestly think they could beat her, or were they following a macho script in which everyone expects a guy to confidently lay claim to better skills at anything than any woman, or is there another motive?

The Tension: The conflict lies in the friction between homogenization (the assumption that global systems flatten differences) and polarization (the reality that local spaces experience these systems in vastly unequal ways).

2. The Epistemological Challenge (Knowledge Worlds)

Within a book focused on #transdisciplinary research, this tension directly impacts how knowledge is produced and applied:

and rapid communication channels—that imply a shrinking, unifying world.

Persistent Divides: This represents the localized, bottom-up realities on the ground. Despite shared global networks, structural inequalities regarding wealth distribution, political sovereignty, historical grievances, and cultural autonomy do not dissolve; in many cases, they are reinforced or exposed by that very connectivity.

From a social science perspective, the key error of nationalism and racism is to prioritise one people's history over another's. Each individual and each society evolved within its own context, and all historical contexts are equally valid, understandable, and worthy of respect.

Who are the "ideal immigrants"? A massive study in @scienceadvances pooled data from 100 immigration experiments across 36 countries and 1.5 million immigrant profiles.

Perhaps most interestingly: people care much more about WHO an immigrant is than where they COME FROM. In short: your CV often matters more than your passport.

Research by CPC-CG members Professor Ann Berrington and Dr Vincent Ramos suggests that young people with unstable early careers face greater challenges getting onto the housing ladder.

For the study, they looked at data from the UCL Centre for Longitudinal Studies’ Next Steps cohort - find out more on the #CLS website:

Climbing the housing ladder tough for those with unstable early careers | CLS

People who experience spells of unemployment early in their careers are less likely to own a home at age 32. Meanwhile, those with a successful start in the labour market further benefit from the “bank of mum and dad” when buying their first homes.
