#sobp2023 #science The fellow who wrote this review--Dr. David Nutt--was the opening speaker at the Society of Biological Psychiatry meeting, and he was phenomenal. This paper is open access so you can see what the pro psychedelics movement in psychiatry is saying! (it is written for experts on the brain, but ask me if it doesn't make sense and I'll do my best. I'm hopeless with organic chemistry but I can do ok with other aspects...)
#sobp2023 #science I am greatly encouraged by the number of plenary or keynote presentations by women at the Society for Biological Psychiatry, and the number of panels with either parity or a straight majority of women speakers. π
We still have a lot to do in other dimensions of representation, but it's a strong showing for gender. Which is a strong step in any medical field, and Psychiatry is no exception!
#sobp2023 I feel like I got to have lunch with Martin Luther King Jr or the Dalai Lama.
We had Dr. Altha Stewart (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altha_Stewart ) as the speaker at the conference today.
This is a woman who stands with one foot in medicine and another in justice and fights for both.
This is a woman who has run massive public health programs and has no fear of arguing for health equity to governors, legislators, or the local barbershop. This was one of her slides, a hint of her approach.

Super super excited that our symposium (spearheaded by the lovely @DaveKoop, not on this website yet?) was accepted to #SOBP2023 this year. as a 2 academic house Alice has to come with me, so if anyone is going to want grumpy snuggles & obstinate coloring time for an hour do let me know : ) she will be 3!
