Alpha Trion set Smokescreen on the path to become a prime. But his visions must not have seen far eough to know Smokescreen turns it down. Alpha Trion put a very important planet-saving relic inside Smokescreen, taught Smokescreen ABOUT relics, and probably knew Optimus was going to offer Smokescreen the matrix.
Smokescreen was RIGHT about destiny, but he still chose to grow as a character instead of choose glory.
