Hi, I’m Diana! Researcher & writer working on self-regulation, practice, and how technology quietly messes with attention.
Currently PhD-shaped.

Interested in media interaction, learning processes, music practice, and queer life without the algorithmic panic.

Mostly here to interact with people.

Expect mostly replies to stuff and the odd rant about niche topics. Light on hot takes; heavy on “hm, that’s interesting."

🎄 Christmas Eve at the Lighthouse
Earphones on. Lights low.
A quiet voice from the tower while the internet sleeps.

Settle in. This one’s meant to be heard. 🔊✨

There's a solar-powered webserver and small web design workshop happening in Guelph! So awesome!

"In their ongoing research and creative practice, Clendinning draws from media artist Carrie Hott’s Slow Internet ethos and the energy-responsive design strategies developed by the Solar Protocol Network, to advocate for web design that prioritizes the use of limited colours, fonts and lower resolution images."

"...in the midst of the state of things, it’s nice to remind ourselves of the slow and quiet corners hiding in the folds of the net—like the Wilson Towercam—and to hope that we might continue to build them."

On observing time – The Creative Independent

For our series with Are.na, Jon Gacnik muses over the internet, mountains, and the nature of time itself.

Downloading "Split Fiction" through the EA App made me face the issue of slow downloads once again. Now I figured it out and the download speeds are much better!

Fixing slow download speeds on Windows 11 | samimaatta.fi

I have been noticing slow download speeds even though I should be downloading a bunch! Setting 'Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level' to normal fixed it.

We need a project like #Gemini (the protocol, not the dystopian massively-parallel-value-extractor) to establish protocols and services that work well at 128kbps.

That would be crazy cool.

We have #Gemini, we have the #SmolWeb, now we need #SlowInternet (on purpose).

Background: about half a decade ago, I purchased a pre-paid SIM with unlimited "2G"-speed internet connectivity.

I thought 128kbps would be more than enough for my needs.

Nope. Almost entirely unusable. Stuff would just fail gracelessly left and right, even though it was slowly-but-steadily getting the job done.

I had paid for a year in advance X'D
