Trying to manage my fatigue, and the effects of exercise and sleep apnoea treatment on it, has led me at last to buy an Apple Watch for its comprehensive suite of sensors and software. And the animated Snoopy watch face, of course.

It's secondhand and didn't come with a strap (which meant buying a cheap third party strap, as the Apple equivalent costs—brace yourself—A HUNDRED QUID), but I was able to trade in an assortment of old electronics against it; and the advantage of getting the model with a sapphire screen and titanium body is that any previous owner would have to have really gone out of their way to cause any damage to it, so it's in good shape. Better shape than I'm in, certainly.

Considering I get out so rarely that I hardly ever need an actual watch these days, this is clearly overkill. Frankly, I think this model (Ultra 2) is probably overkill for at least 95% of the people who buy it, but it has a big battery and monitors everything from sleep patterns to heart anomalies, which is my main focus. I suspect I'll feel incredibly self-conscious wearing it in public, though.

Deafening, draining and potentially deadly: are we facing a snoring epidemic?

Experts say dangerous sleep apnoea affects an estimated 8 million in the UK alone, and everything from evolution to obesity or even the climate crisis could be to blame

Reader, it worked!

I wasn’t convinced but my mouth stayed shut and the tape stayed stuck on!

Taking it off this morning wasn’t too bad either, in that it didn’t rip half my beard out!

Did I mention that since losing weight my sleep apnoea has paradoxically gotten worse?

My CPAP machine is providing more pressure and my mouth is dropping open leading to leaks and snoring.

This didn’t used to happen before.

I’ve had to use a chinstrap again but they’re uncomfortable and not working as well as before either.

Anyway, tonight I’m going to try taping my mouth shut 😅

I’ve seen mouth tapes before but avoided them as I’ve got a beard, but I just wanna sleep without a damn chin strap on so hopefully this’ll do the trick.

NGL, I feel a bit like Abe from Abe’s Odyssee 😅

Wish me luck!
