All the snow melted yesterday and then froze around here last night, but at least the gritters are out!

For the last of the summer wine mastodon fans, that is the road they crashed their tin bath cart on.

Nice inversion (s) the other day, as mist floated up the Wessenden valley. Stunning on the tops, atmospheric in the villages. #Slaithwaite #Marsden
A little reminder that Slawit Repair Cafe is running tomorrow (10am-1pm). #Slaithwaite #ColneValley

Walked along the canal to the jazz festival in a neighbouring village. Came across a neighbour's lost chicken on the way home and spent an hour chasing it through woodland. Living here is fun.

We thankfully missed the (thundery) rain on our afternoon dogwalk but definitely saw the rainbows.

Linux Switch Survey – Exploring Interest at Slawit Repair Cafe

Microsoft will soon stop supporting Windows 10. This means any computers/laptops running Windows 10 will become insecure (vulnerable to viruses, malware, hacking), or people will have to buy a new computer even though there's technically nothing wrong with the old one. We're exploring whether there's interest in Slawit Repair Cafe helping people switch their computers over to Linux – a secure, free alternative to Windows. This quick survey will help us understand how much people know about the issue, and whether there's demand for a special Linux-focused event at Slawit Repair Cafe.

A row of shops in #Slaithwaite is celebrating its centenary this year and I've joined a group to pull together a timeline & oral histories of people who've shopped/worked there over the last century.

As part of that, on Monday, we got to dig into the archives at the Colne Valley Museum. We found some images of the shops from the 1950s, but I was more excited about finding a pic of our house from 1977 and a series documenting the building of the M62, inc my fave bridge.

Looking over #Slaithwaite from our side of the valley, a working textile mill rather dominates the view and since moving here in 2020 and realising it makes the yarn I use in most of my blankets, I have *yearned* to see inside. It finally happened yesterday!

We had a tour around the part that deals with producing Stylecraft hand knit yarns. We saw the whole process, from the raw acrylic coming in to the finished balls being wound, banded & packaged. Seeing all the machines running was hypnotic.
