One cannot overemphasize the symbolism in #Gavlebocken this year receiving a #skyburial
On one hand the supplied straw contained too much seeds, representing the declining quality of the goods capitalism supplies us with.
Also Sweden receiving its snow way too early this year denying birds other sources of food reminds us of how #climatechange affects the local wildlife.
So this winter rather than burning stuff (like julbΓΆcke or fossiles) feed your local wildlife!

* Buy a little plot of land in the Coast Range or the Cascades
* Clear it with the county health department, maybe?
* Build a Tower of Silence
* Cultivate a local population of raptors and/or corvids

Of course I do not intend to equal modern-day (or even historic) #funerary customs (like e.g. #SkyBurial in Asia) with prehistoric practices.

But #analogies like these do imho provide a useful frame to evaluate the archaeological data along a large variety of human responses towards #death - and the treating the #dead.
