Håkan Dahlmark was a timber-floating inspector at Lövudden, near the Indalsälven River, and a well-known hunter. He loved sharing hunting stories at the Knaust Hotel in Sundsvall. One of his most famous tales was about a winged hare he claimed to have shot in the Lunde Forest outside Timrå in 1874. He called the creature a "skvader."
I got a message from my friend Rickard Olausson, a professional photographer and founder of Skvader Media in Gothenburg of Sweden. His request? To create a mythical creature with wings for his new logo. Perfect.
I always prefer to start with hand-drawn sketches before moving over to digital. There’s something about the analog process, the direct connection between hand and paper that makes ideas flow more naturally for me. The imperfections, the organic lines, the freedom to explore without the constraints of pixels and vectors. It helps me understand the shape and form before refining it digitally.
After many variations, I started to see the small details that made each hare unique. The wings weren’t just an addition—they became part of the creature’s essence. Should they be raised? Should the hare be mid-leap? Should it gaze forward with curiosity?
Somehow, the skvader took shape, not just as a mythical being but as a reflection of Rickard himself. Always creative, curious and humble. Always leaping forward.
