Because I didn't feel like getting up at 3:30 and driving to a mountain pass to go #skitouring, I chose a #sota summit where the snow was manageable on foot...

Last shot in this ski touring trio. After the effort of the climb, a silent reward: soft snow, fresh turns, and no one else around. These are the moments that stay with you long after the descent.

First tracks during a ski touring day in the Alps. Crisp snow, cold light, and the joy of quiet effort in untouched terrain.

We started at 4 in the morning: five persons, five bikes and five pairs of ski in one car direction Dischmatal near Davos. To our surprise the road up there was already opened, so we skipped the cycling up part. After a kilometer hiking there was finally enough snow to mount the skins. There we ascended the Scalettahorn. Absolutely perfect weather and great views. Due to the high temperatures the time on the summit had to be short.
Back at the car four lucky guys used their bikes to go back to Davos.
Now I am back home enjoying icecream and coffee in the shadows of the house. It's round about 28°C...

The most demanding ski tour I’ve ever done was in April 2019 at Paistunturi Wilderness Area, Finland. Everything started well, but the weather took a quick turn, with temperatures rising well above freezing, causing the snow to melt rapidly. Our initial plan was to hike through the area and end up in Utsjoki, a small village just 100 km north of our starting location. However, we had to turn back midway through the tour as it seemed we would not have enough snow to ski on. We rushed back to our starting location in a frenzy, wading through melting snow and icy streams of water. It was the toughest hike, but at the same time, one of the best!

3/3 On day three I had planned to ascend the Daubenhorn. However the drift snow looked quite scary in the morning shadows, so I decided to climb the Lämmerenhorn instead and decide afterwards what to do. Most of the people who started with us at the hut went up the Wildstrubel, therefore we had a further summit in private. After skiing down to the Lämmerenboden we realised that there was almost no drift snow up to the Daubenhorn. The shadows mislead me. So we decided to climb it until 13:30 and to turn around after that to reach a train not too late in the evening. Highly motivated I went all in and we reached the ski depot just below the summit at 13:27. The short ascend and the astonishing views were an absolute must at that point. So the point of return had to be delayed a little bit.

2/3 The second day was packed with two summits and quite a lot of kilometers. We were the first who ascended the "Lämmerental" this morning. At the "Rote Totz Lücke" there are just some meters left before the summit of "Rote Totz". However, due to the snow conditions we needed to mount our skis to our backpacks and climb over the ridge there. Due to a strong wind gust the time on the summit was short. The more down we skied the more enjoyable became the snow. At the "Daubensee" we mounted the skins and ascended the "Alte Gemmi". The wind of the night had blown away all the snow on some parts so the ascend was a little bit challenging on some parts. Up the Furggentäli we were completely by ourselves. Clouds and snow were hunted up the valley by strong winds. Due to the amount of snow in the air by the wind gust our stay at the top was again quite short.
Skiing back down to the "Daubensee" was enjoyable on the upper part and more rough at the end. Finally a long walk back to the hut, again with cake, coffee and Suure Moscht.

Distance: 16km
Elevation gain: 1300m
Elevation loss: 1300m

1/3 I found finally some time to write this post of the ski touring days I spent with a friend near the Wildstrubel at the end of March.
We stood up early and took the first bus / train to Adelboden. Lucky us we enjoyed the space and comfort of an old 1st class waggon which had been relabeled as 2nd class for that train. In Adelboden we took the cable car up to Engstligen Alp. There we directly left the ski resort and ascended direction "Tschigellochtighore". From there we skied down into the valley of the other side of the ridge and made a bigger break before mounting the skin again. Now up to the "Rote Totz Lücke" and finally skiing down to the SAC hut "Lämmerenhütte". Our base for the next two days. Enjoying yummy plum cake, coffee and "Suure Moscht" (Cider) in the sun were the perfect refreshment.

Distance: 9km
Elevation gain: 1100m
Elevation loss: 540m
