Another Thesmallest Vallila piece that is going places: Jere Suontausta's Starring Dust had a new iteration in Media Art Days in Videbæk. This time the starring dust particle was picked from Vestjyllands Kunstpavillon, as is the idea of this site specific piece, then filmed through microscope, the film showed on a monitor as close to the original dust particle's site, and finally the particle returned.

Site-specific art course, part 3: Toivo Yrjölä's 'Lattia. Ei bileitä varten.' (Floor. Not for parties.) comments the pet peeve of Theatre Academy: the lobby's floor.

The floor is in such a bad shape that dancing is indeed forbidden on it, for safety reasons, thus making parties quite impossible. Yrjölä's laconic disco still keeps going on, with music that sounds like it's coming from underground (because it kind of is).

Site-specific art course, part 2: Viivi Tammelin's Irti kontekstista (Out of Context) was inspired by the weird window-like niche that mostly go unnoticed even if it's by the most busy corridor of the building. Tammelin designated the spot with animated eyes, and headlines taken out of their context, providing a sense of oddness and some giggles as well.

I've just finished teaching a course of site-specific art for lighting, sound and scenography design students. In three days they designed and built artworks based on what they've learned in previous two weeks. With pride and joy I'll be posting pics of the pieces that can be counted as light art and thus dominion of this account (mind you, the non-light art pieces caused just as much pride and joy).

The first example is Pietari Salmi's Trying to Trace The Sun, not only site- but also time-specific piece, where the artist traced the borders of a moving sunbeam every half an hour during one day. It was a risky project, since the weather was quite cloudy, and he did have to wait a few days.

@jakofields @foldworks @dillyd In Helsinki, some of the manhole covers are actual art. Denise Ziegler has created a series of covers, scattered around central Helsinki, with notions of the place they are situated in embossed on them as text. Like here: "In the backroom of the city, you enjoy of the sea view", which is placed behind the Old Market Hall, right by the shore.
