Also, some programs (I can only think of #SimpleNote off the top of my head) have a fully native Mac app, but only an electron app for Linux.
That's sad, and makes me feel sad. XD

Seemingly when I need it the most #Simplenote has stopped syncing my notes between my phone and PC :(
Is there any alternative that is easy to switch all my notes over to?
I need it to be simple and have an app for Android and Linux. Not self hosted, sorry.
SimpleNote MCP Server
I’ve been an avid SimpleNote user, long before I started working at Automattic.
I love how easy it is to just fire up a note and start typing. I can tag, type text, use markdown formatting, and link to other notes. And that’s basically it! I’ve tried things like Obsidian and Notion but they just had too much overhead and I never used them for long.
I’m also a big Claude and Claude Code and I thought it would be fun to write a simple MCP server so I can use Claude to query my SimpleNote notes.
Here it is for your enjoyment. Open source, should work with any AI tool that supports MCP. The limitations are that it’s currently macOS only (because it reads the raw XML data from SimpleNote) and you have to manually add it to your settings file for Claude and Claude Code. The README has detailed instructions.

Here’s a little example of it in action.
I’d love to hear any impressions, bugs, suggestions, or whatever. It’s my first MCP server so I’m sure there’s plenty of room for improvement.
#ai #Claude #mcpServer #simplenoteI've got a bit of free time on my hands starting tomorrow through the rest of the week.
Been digging myself out of a depressive mood surrounding some loss and trauma, yadda yadda...
I decided to look up my "todo" note on #SimpleNote. Well, it's not a simple "todo" per se, but more of a big goals/planning kind of note. I've struggled with goalmaking and planning for a very long time, like...
> "What are your goals?"
"Uhhh, not die? Maybe?"
> --__--
(:
Anyway, I looked up my "goals/schedule/projects...etc..." note and noticed the timestamp in the title said "2024" at the end.
Ho boy. XD
Looking at the history with the simplenote web interface, I see I touched the note about 8 times in 2024, and maybe three times this year.
Yeah, I'm NOT good at this. XD
Encouraging words would be appreciated.
Oh, another random thing, I was watching a few episodes of Homecoming tonight, and there's these two characters, they're a couple: an uneasy, ethically-minded (initially, at least) Vietnamese lady and her extremely confident African-American wife.
The African-American lady is constantly prodding her wife to take chances and to be more confident.
I leaned over to my family member and said, "She's crazy evil, but what I wouldn't give to have someone like that whispering in my ear all of the time, instead of the usual crap that goes on in the back of my head!"
Wait, since when was there NO WAY to paste into Simplenote?
Nothing in the right-click menu, Ctrl-V doesn't work, console says "Error: command 'editor.action.clipboardPasteAction' not found"
That's... more than a little deal-breaky.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity So I was right - #Joplin DOES create files. They're named like shit, but they exist for sure - in the /Joplin subfolder folder in #Dropbox. But, even though they have .md extension they're not actually #markdown - they contain a lot of arcane metadata that I'm sure is translated on the fly by Joplin. Huh.
Buuut it's all exportable (of course, since I already did that once upon a time).
Still fiddling with it as a potential replacement for #Simplenote.
