Evidently AJ Lee and Blue Summit has been around for a few years but the band is a new signing to the Signature Sounds label. Signature Sounds, for me, has had its best success, in recent times, with veteran acts. Examples include Eilen Jewell, Brennen Leigh, and Chris Smither. So, the fresh faced Blue Summit may mark a nod or even a return to the early days of Signature Sounds.
"Hillside," the teaser track available now at Bandcamp, is really encouraging. After the knowing and very pretty soloing on the verses, the density of the harmony on the chorus took me by surprise. I definitely like it. The song ends a little soon; but then again, we don't have the show biz expression, "Leave 'em wanting more," for no reason.
Five Stars for the great promise this group shows.

Most of the "Cars" album takes place at the spot where interpretation meets faithful covers. It features the original arrangements and the same or similar instrumental lines as on the recordings by The Cars. It differs from the original records by centering on female vocals and by playing familiar Cars riffs on different instruments. Dinty Child, for instance, revs it up on rhythm tubes, while Zack Hickman puts pedal to the metal on such instruments as peckhorn and stylophone. Greg Hawkes, an actual Car, steps in on ukulele.
Delmhorst is among our best singer-songwriters; but if I could have only one of her full-length releases, it would be “Cars.” It is evident that this is a project she really wanted to do and she produced an excellent album.

The Boston Globe named her album ‘Til It’s Gone as one of 2022’s 50 Best Albums of the Year and proclaimed, “Ms. Ali gets it. And she can play that damn guitar, too.
